What Extended School Year Santa Cruz San Jose is:
Individualized and based solely on that particular student’s critical and specific skills that are an essential part of the student’s overall education progress
Determined by the IEP committee
Based on multiple criteria and no only on regression and recoupment
Designed to help maintain readiness for the next school year
A strategy to help prevent regression and decrease recoupment time, which will decrease the time the student spend in the fall regaining skills proficiency from the previous school year
-Deliverable in a number of ways including
-At home, with parents as teachers and staff consult
-School based
-School based with community activities included
-Related services only, or services included with any of the above
What Extended School Year Santa Cruz is not:
-A mandated service covering the entire 12 months of the year for all students with disabilities
-Required for either the parents or the schools convenience, and is not intended to be day care or respite care
-Mandated or intended to maximize educational opportunities for any disabled student
-Intended to continue to work on all previous IEP goals from the school year that just ended. Instead, the focus is on crucial skills where regression may occur
-To be used to help disabled student advance relative to their peers
-For disabled students who regress solely because of medical problems or transitional life situation
-Required only because a student does not meet IEP goals and objectives during the regular school year
-Intended to exceed the education plan in the IEP goals/objectives
